Discover Risk
The CII is the world’s largest professional body for insurance, risk and financial services. Based in London, the world’s leading city for international insurance and reinsurance, we have 105,000 members in more than 150 countries, underscoring just what a global profession this is.
We have a low-cost, high-value student membership scheme specifically for full-time students at UK universities. Crucially, this scheme will help you build your network of contacts through face-to-face events and social media such as Linkedin, and will supply you with key market data through our member-only web area. Click here for more on this offer.
Graduate schemes from risk employers large and small will often contain our professional qualifications. The ACII is the world’s best known qualification in the sector, and will act as your second passport should you wish to take your career beyond the UK.
The ACII will give you insight and technical knowledge in a diverse range of areas including law, business, economics and risk; you can also develop specialist knowledge in claims, underwriting, broking, risk management and takaful (insurance for Islamic markets).
The CII works with employers of all sizes to promote the opportunities available to undergraduates and graduates in our profession, from short summer placements to graduate schemes. We also deliver many on-campus events with practitioners, to give you real-life examples of the journey from university to practice.
The CII’s Discover Risk website www.discoverrisk.co.uk is the one-stop shop for case studies, graduate opportunities and employer profiles.
The CII also includes the Personal Finance Society (PFS), the UK’s largest professional body for those working in financial advice. Financial advice is in the midst of a drive towards increased professionalism, and a number of advisers will be leaving the profession before the end of 2012, when the new qualification requirements begin.
This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for new entrants, and graduates in particular, to join an emerging profession as an administrator or paraplanner (this is someone who provides market research and report-writing support to a financial adviser) and study towards the qualifications required to practise.
Financial advisers offer support and advice to people (and, in some cases, companies) looking to secure their financial future. Clients can range from pensioners to high net worth individuals, from sportspeople to lottery winners, from junior managers to CEOs.
The CII’s professional qualifications in this area will develop your technical expertise in areas such as tax, pensions, investments and regulations.
