business and careers for students

2012 Corporate Industrial Placement Programmes

at Nomura

These programmes are aimed at students in their penultimate year who need a work placement to meet their degree requirements. Lasting for 6 to 12 months, your placement will give you the opportunity to see how our Corporate division functions (Operations, IT, or Finance – whichever programme you are accepted into) and the role it plays in our business as a whole.

Operations:

Where you are placed depends on your area of interest; we offer roles in all our departments within Operations. From day one, you'll work as a full member of the team on projects that have a real effect on our business. You will focus on maintaining exceptional corporate support to our global business and take on extra responsibilities as you progress through the programme.  You'll be exposed to a variety of business critical activities that will give you a sense of how Nomura operates on a global scale. You will also develop a solid understanding of the department and the role you could play in it.

IT:

You'll work with colleagues at all levels on anything from writing technical specifications to assisting with project implementation. You'll focus on new developments, updating applications for established systems and partnering with senior developers and engineers to learn more about our development life cycle and infrastructure.  You'll build your skills in systems development and support, and you can expect to gain an understanding of the different products (equities, bonds, futures, options, swaps, exotic derivatives, quant and the like). You'll also build your knowledge of risk management methods and techniques and live trade analysis.

Finance:

You will help our department provide expert and timely advice throughout all banking divisions. You will also take ownership for critical projects and interact with external partners at credit and rating agencies. As well as a wide exposure to Nomura and on-the-job experience, you'll have structured training to help you get the most out of your placement, and have a buddy and a mentor assigned to you.
