Summer Analyst Internship

Our Summer Analyst Programme is designed for ambitious penultimate year university students. This non-rotational programme takes place predominantly in our main hubs: London, New York, Hong Kong and Dubai with an extensive range of opportunities across Global Banking, Global Markets, Global Research, Global Infrastructure, HTS GBM Technology, Global Asset Management and Global Private Banking.

Whichever business area you apply to, this programme will provide you with the platform to be considered for our full-time Global Businesses Analyst Programme (GBAP). You will have the opportunity to show your genuine potential and develop the behaviours, skills and experience essential to enjoy a long-term career at HSBC.

The core elements

Your internship will comprise three essential elements. Our Summer Analyst Programme will launch with the induction including technical, behavioural and IT skills training providing you with everything you need for a successful start within your chosen business area. Throughout the programme you will gain lots of hands-on experience, allowing you to take an active role in contributing to your team. This will be complemented by regular informational, networking and social events enabling you to build relationships and grow your network.

An insight into HSBC

Through both formal training and day-to-day real-life experience in the business, you will gain an insight into our competitive advantages in the markets and the financial services industry. In turn, throughout the programme, you will continue to deepen your understanding of our business, strategy and customers, enhancing your contribution and impact.

Building your network

Our Summer Analyst Programme will provide you with the invaluable opportunity to establish a global network of peers and leaders across HSBC. In an industry such as ours, you will be expected to leverage these relationships to maximise your effectiveness.

Developing your knowledge

The programme's mix of practical experience, coaching and training will allow you to develop the behaviours, knowledge and technical business skills you need to be a success. Regular feedback and two-way communication and advice on your performance from your line manager, buddy and Analyst Development Advisor will help you show your potential and develop quickly throughout the summer. Your buddy will also be on hand to share ideas, give guidance and provide all-round support.

Pass your assessments

The ultimate aim of the Summer Analyst Programme is to support you in developing the skills that will enable you to become a successful full-time Analyst at HSBC. Therefore, we recommend that you view your internship as an extended assessment.

From day one, you will be assessed on your technical knowledge, business acumen, analytical strengths, communication/client-facing skills and teamwork, as well as your alignment to our core behaviours and values. Your line manager will set you specific, measurable objectives from the beginning and be responsible for managing and reviewing your performance at key stages throughout your time with us.

Foundation for success

Many people who have joined us on the Summer Analyst Programme in the past have found it provides a solid foundation for an excellent career at HSBC. The comprehensive introduction to our culture, strategy and values allied to the depth of the development opportunities available makes for a powerful proposition.
