Applications open from 1st December 2012 through until 31st January 2013

Shearman & Sterling LLP is recognised as one of the leading international corporate and commercial law firms in London. Our ability to offer integrated English and US legal advice across a broad range of practices has made us one of the most successful US-origin firms in the UK market. Globally we have approximately 900 lawyers, including over 120 in our London office.

Headquartered in New York, we also have offices in Abu Dhabi, Beijing, Brussels, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, London, Milan, Munich, New York, Palo Alto, Paris, Rome, San Francisco, São Paulo, Shanghai, Singapore, Tokyo, Toronto and Washington D.C.

Established in London for 40 years, we represent major UK and international companies and financial institutions. We are ideally placed to work closely with our offices in the Americas, continental Europe, the Middle East and Asia to advise clients on complex corporate transactions. These capabilities have contributed to substantial growth in the business and size of the office, making the London office instrumental to our European practice.

Our main areas of work include European Corporate (including Mergers & Acquisitions, Equity Capital Markets & US Capital Markets), Project Development & Finance, Global Finance, International Arbitration & Litigation, Antitrust, Tax, Financial Institutions Advisory & Asset Management, Real Estate and Executive Compensation & Employee Benefits.

Our two week summer scheme aims to give participants a true insight into life at the firm, and the role a trainee plays. Participants take part in a two day induction before joining one of the practice groups for the remainder of the two weeks. This allows for participants to see the work going on in the department and really get involved with the team.

In addition to the day to day work given by the practice group, there are a number of workshops and presentations for the participants. These include a presentation from one of our clients, an introduction to the LPC, as well as a group presentation to prepare for during the scheme. The evening events arranged for the summer scheme students also allow for opportunities to speak with trainees and lawyers outside of the office, in an informal setting.
